Answer:

Probability = Number of possibilities of an event / Sample Space

Here, Sample space refers to the total number of outcomes available for the given set of conditions.

Sample Space for the given data is : { 1,2,3,4,5,6 } = 6

Number of possibilities of picking the marble mrked "2" is : { 2 } = 1

⇒ Probability = 1/6

The possibility of taking marble marked "2" is 1. This is because there is only one marble marked with number 2. If there had been 3 marbles, then the number of possibilities would have been 2.

Hope it helped !!

Steph0303: Well I took the cardinal value of the sample space set. You can see it in the last step :) I have not provided any wrong answer.

Sample space= {1,2,3,4,5,6}

The event of getting marble with 2 written on it is an equallylikely event without any external influence.

Probability of getting a marble with 2 on it =No. of favourable outcomes to the event of getting a marble 2 on it/ total no of possible outcomes

Here, total number of possible outcomes=6

And number of events favourable to get number 2 is 1

Hence, probability of getting a number 2 = 1/6
