Answer: There are 41 violet balls and 49 balls not violet

Explanation:

If the probability of picking up green and violet are the same then they must be in the same amount in the box after the addition of balls

Number of violet balls = 70 - x

Number of green balls = x + 12

70 - x = x + 12

⇒ 2x = 70  - 12 = 58

⇒ x = 58/2 = 29

Violet balls = 70 - 29 = 41

Not violet balls = 90 - 41 = 49

(Note that after 20 balls were added the total number of balls became 70 + 20 = 90)
