SOLUTION

GIVEN

There are 800 students in a school whose average age is 18 years. If 100 students leaves the school their average decrease by 0.6 years.

TO DETERMINE

The average of 100 students.

EVALUATION

Here it is given that there are 800 students in a school whose average age is 18 years.

∴ Sum of the ages of 800 students

= 800 × 18

= 14400

Now 100 students leaves the school their average decrease by 0.6 years

So average age of 700 students is 17.4 years

∴ Sum of the ages of 700 students

= 700 × 17.4

= 12180

∴ Sum of the ages of 100 students

= 14400 - 12180

= 2220

Hence the required average of 100 students

= 2220 ÷ 100 years

= 22.2 years
