Answer: The total value of the 96 coins is £ 72.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, total coins = 96,

Out of which £1 coins = 1/2 of total coins,

= 1/2 of 96

=\frac{96}{2}=48

⇒ The total amount of £1 coins = 48 × 1 =  £ 48

Now, the number of 50 p coins = 1/2 of total coins = 48,

⇒ The total amount of 50 p coins = 0.50 × 48 = £ 24,

Hence, the total amount = The amount of £1 coins + The amount of 50p coins

=  £ 48 +  £ 24

= £ 72
