there are a certain number of scientists and samples. if each scientist takes one sample there are fourteen samples left and if each scientist takes two samples there are fourteen scientists left. find the number of scientists and samples.​

Answer:

let no. of scientist=x

and no. of samples = y

then case 1 when each scientist take 1 sample then 14 samples left

1(x)+14=y

y-x=14   (eqn 1)

case 2 when if  one scientist take 2 samples then 14 scientists left

2(x-14) = x

2x-28=x

x=28

putting in eqn 1

y-(28)=14

y=42

hence no. of scientist and samples are 28 and 42 respectively.
