Lets say

pigeons= x

rabbits=y

if heads are 20

x+y=20

x(pigeons) have 2 legs

y(rabbits) have 4 legs

so

2x + 4y= 48

By equation no 1

x+y=20

we can get

y=20-x

By trans[psing this into the new equation

2x+ 4(20-x) = 48

2x + 80-4x= 58

-2x= 58-80

-2x= -22

x= -22/-2

x=11

Thus no of pugeons in the zoo is 11

and rabbits= 20-11=9
