There are are four metals K,L, M and N identify them by using the hints given below. K forms basic oxides. L forms amphoteric oxides . Oxide of M dissolved in water to form alkali. N does not react with water at all K -> Cu , L->Zn , M-> K , N-> Pb K -> Zn , L->Al , M-> Na , N-> Fe K -> Fe , L->Na , M-> K , N-> Zn K -> K , L->Cu , M-> Pb , N-> Na

Answer:

K is copper as both the oxides of copper ( cuprous oxide and cupric oxide behave as a base ) L is zinc as oxides of zinc dissolve in aqueous acid to give salts or co-ordination complexes, in base to give salts and in excess base to give zincates . M is potassium as potassium oxide reacts with water to form potassium hydroxide . N is lead , it does not react with water at all

The metals K, L, M, and N are -

K - K, L - Cu, M - Pb, N - Na.

Explanation

OXIDES -

  • The compounds that contain one or more oxygen with the other elements.
  • The oxides can be classified as acidic, basic, or amphoteric based on their acid-base nature.
  • The oxide that reacts with water to form acids are known as acidic oxide whereas if the base is formed it is known as basic oxide.
  • Some oxides can be either neutral or amphoteric in nature.
  • Basic oxides or acid anhydrides are usually formed by non-metals.
  • Acidic oxides or basic anhydrides are usually formed by metallic elements.
  • Neutral oxide does not react with acid or base to form salt and water.

K - BASIC OXIDE - METAL - POTASSIUM

L - AMPHOTERIC OXIDE - COPPER

M - METAL OXIDE - LEAD

N - NEUTRAL OXIDE - SODIUM
