Express this in the form of an equation in two variables. Using this equation find the number of families who donated rs 100 each if the number of families donating is rs 50 is 111.

(i)2x + y=889

(ii) Since 111 families contributed Rs. 50 each=111*50=Rs.5,550
Since total money is Rs. 44,450. Then the money contributed by other families= Rs. 44,450 - 5,550 = 38,900
Therefore no. of families contributed Rs. 100 = 389 (As total no. of families is 500). That's how you got the second answer.
