There are four cakes of weights 9 kg, 12.6 kg,
14.4 kg and 16.2 kg. They have to be cut into
smaller pieces such that each piece is as
heavy as possible. Also, the weight of each
such smaller piece should be the same. Find
the total number of such pieces.

Answer:

so we have to find the HCF of 9, 12.6, 14.4 and 16.2

we can convert these into grams to find HCF. Or we can convert them into fraction to find HCF of fraction. that would be a little longer. I would rather ignore one decimal point and will put that back after finding HCF. For that we will have to take 9 as 9.0

HCF of 90, 126, 144, 162

90 = 2*3*3*5

126 = 2*3*3*7

144 = 2*2*2*2*3*3

162 = 2*3*3*3*3

HCF = 2*3*3= 12

putting the decimal back

HCF of 9 kg, 12.6 kg, 14.4 kg and 16.2 kg = 1.2 kg
