Ganga is considered as the lifeline of Northern plains as the economy of a place is driven by the river.
Many big cities flourish along the banks of the river as it caters to the needs of people in the form of providing clean drinking water, water for irrigation, for industries and for providing inland waterways for transport purposes.
However, due to the discharge of untreated industrial waste and sewage into the river, the problem of pollution and contaminated water has risen. But the situation can be controlled by taking adequate measures.
