Answer:

n=140

Step-by-step explanation:

n/2+n/4+n/5+7= n

10n+5n+4n/20 + 7=n

19n/20 + 7=n

19n/20=n-7

19n=20(n-7)

19n=20n-140

140=19n-20n

140=n or n=140

Given :  There are n books in a class library. 4 students have decided to take books on a particular day.

The first student takes 1/2 of the books, the second takes 1/4 th of the books, the third student takes 1/5 thof the books and the fourth student gets only 7 books.

To Find : How many books are there in the library?

Solution:

Total Books = n

first students gets = n/2

2nd student gets = n/4

33rd student gets = n/5

fourth gets = 7

n = n/2 + n/4 + n/5  + 7

Multiplying by 20 on both sides

=> 20 n = 10n + 5n + 4n  + 140

=> 20n = 19n + 140

=> n = 140

Hence 140 books in Library
