There are some benches in a classroom. If 4 students sit on each bench, 3 benches are left vacant, but if 3 students sit on each bench, 3 students are left standing. What is the total no of students in the classroom?​

Answer:

There are 48 students in total.

If there are 15 benches in total.

If 4 students sit on each bench, then:

Sitting capacity of 15 benches = 15*4 = 60

3 benches are left vacant.

Therefore number of students = total sitting capacity - capacity of 3 benches

= 60 - 3*4 = 60 - 12 =  48

If 3 students sit on each bench, then:

Sitting capacity of 15 benches = 15*3 = 45

3 students are left standing.

Therefore number of students = total sitting capacity + students left standing

= 45 + 3 = 48

Thus, in both the case the number of students are same.

We can conclude by saying that the total number of students in the classroom is 48.
