Answer:

quantity of rabbit is 36

Rabbit is x

peacock is y

x+y=60×2

=2x+2y=120. -(1)

4x+2y=192. -(2)

we solve the equation,

-2x+0=-72

-2x=-72

x=-72÷-2

x=36 therefore. rabbit is 36.

Given:

There are some rabbits and peacocks in a zoo. The total number of their heads is 60 and the total number of their legs is 192.

To find:

The number of total rabbits.

Solution:

Let the total number of rabbits be x and the total number of peacocks be y.

Now, according to the question, we have,

The total number of heads of rabbits and peacocks is 60.

So,

x + y = 60 \:  \:  \: (i)

(as each animal has one head)

Also,

The total number of legs of rabbits and peacocks is 192.

So,

4x + 2y = 192 \:  \: (ii)

( as a rabbit has four legs and a peacock has two legs)

Equation (ii) can be written as

2x + y = 96 \:  \: (iii)

After subtracting (iii) from (i), we have,

x = 36

Hence, the total number of rabbits is 36.
