SOLUTION

GIVEN

There are the same remainder 3 when 135, 111, and 87 is divided by the certain number.

TO DETERMINE

The largest possible value of this number

EVALUATION

Here it is given that there are the same remainder 3 when 135, 111, and 87 is divided by the certain number

We have to find the largest possible value of this number

So the required number is HCF of

( 135 - 3 ) , ( 111 - 3 ) , ( 87 - 3 )

i.e. 132 , 108 , 84

Now

 \sf{132 =2 \times  2 \times 3 \times 11}

 \sf{108 = 2 \times 2 \times 3 \times 3 \times 3}

 \sf{84 = 2 \times 2 \times 3 \times 7}

So the HCF of 132 , 108 , 84

= 2 × 2 × 3

= 12

Hence the required largest possible value of this number = 12
