Given:

There are three shells in the atom of element x.

Electrons present in its outermost shell = 6

To Find:

Periodic number

Group number

Answer:

As we know,

Valence shell electrons = 6

Thus,

Electronic configuration = 2,8,6

[ Capacity of first shell = 2 electrons

Capacity of second shell = 8 electrons

And,

We know Electrons present in its outermost shell = 6 electrons ]

Periodic Number is the number of electron occupied shells.

Thus,

Periodic number = 3

Group number can be find from the number of Valence shell electrons.

Valence shell electrons = 6

Group number = 10 + 6

= 16
