There are twelve socks in a drawer: six red socks and six blue socks. The room is completely dark, and you cannot see. How many socks must you take from the drawer before you are certain to have either a pair of red socks or a pair of blue socks in hand

There are 6 red socks and 6 blue socks
So you have to take from the drawer at least 7 socks. Then there can atmost be 6 socks of one color.. and so there will be a pair of either red or blue.

if there are 6 red socks and 6 blue socks,
you must atleast take 3 socks.
then the 3 you take contain 1 pair of same coloured socks and the 3rd one can be anything.
