there are two 60 watt lamps and two 80 watt fans in a house.The fans and lamps run 5 hours daily.Find out the expense in a month if an unit of electricity costs Rs-4 (assume 1 month= 30 days)

→ Power of the fan = 80 W

→ Time = 5 hours

→ Cost of one unit of electricity = ₹ 4

To find:-

→ Expense in a month [ 30 days ]

Solution:-

We know that :-

Energy = Power × Time

Energy consumed by the two lamps :-

= (60 × 5)×2

= 600 Wh

= 0.6 kWh

Energy consumed by the two fans :-

= (80 × 5)×2

= 800 Wh

= 0.8 kWh

∵ Total energy consumed in a day :-

= (0.6 + 0.8)kWh

= 1.4 kWh

∴ Total energy consumed in a month :-

= 1.4×30

= 42 kWh

Hence, expense in a month :-

= ₹ (4×42)

= ₹ 168

Thus, expense in a month is ₹168 .
