Answer:

There are 20 apples in basket A and 30 apples in basket B.

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1 : Let the number of apples in A be x and those in B is y.

Step 2 : Analyze the information given in the question.

If 10 apples are removed from A and added to B then:

A : x - 10

B : y + 10

When we do these the relationship becomes :

4(x - 10) = y + 10

4x - 40 = y + 10

4x - y = 10 + 40

4x - y = 50

If 5 apples are removed from B and put in A then we have :

A : x + 5

B : y - 5

The relationship becomes :

y - 5 = x + 5

y - x = 10

Step 3 : Solve the two equations simultaneously.

4x - y = 50...........1)

y - x = 10..............2)

Adding 1 and 2:

4x - x = 60

3x = 60

x = 60/3

x = 20

Substitute x in 2:

y - 20 = 10

y = 10 + 20

y = 30

Step 4 : answer the question.

There are 20 apples in basket A and 30 apples in basket B.
