Probability of White bread being from box a = 135/254

Step-by-step explanation:

Box  a  -

White Breads = 9

Black Breads = 8

Total Breads = 17

Probability of White from box a  = (1/2)(9/17)

Probability  of Black = (1/2)(8/17)

Box  b  -

White Breads = 7

Black Breads = 8

Total Breads = 15

Probability of White  = (1/2)(7/15)

Probability  of Black = (1/2)(8/15)

Probability  of White bread  = (1/2)(9/17)  + (1/2)(7/15)

= (1/(2 * 15 * 17))( 135 + 119)

= 254/(2 * 15 * 17)

Probability of White bread from box a =   (9/2 *17)/ (254/(2 * 15 * 17)

= 135/254
