There are two bulbs,100 w and 40 w both are given same supply of 230 v which will glow bright and why

If they are connected in series, then bulb of 100W will glow brighter as it has greater resistance. Whereas if they are connected in parallel, bulb of 40W will grow brighter as it has more current flow to it in parallel connection.
