There are two different rate of pens is rupees 35 and the total rate of pens is rupees 60. The cheapest rate of pens is 1.50 and the costly rate of pens is rupees 2.so how many pens are purchased.

Let cheap pen is c

and expensive pen is e

we have total 35 pens

i.e. c + e =35 ……(consider it eq. 1)

Also we know that price of cheap pen(c) = Rs. 1.50

And the price of expensive pen(e) = 2

Total cost = 60

i.e. 1.5c + 2e = 60 ……(consider it eq. 2)

From eq. 1 e = 35 - c

put this value in eq.2

1.5c + 2(35-c) = 60

c = 20

now use value of c in eq.1

20 + e = 35

e = 15

So 15 expensive pens can purchased
