If y>x
X+7=2y y+4=3x
X-2y= -7. 3x-y=4
On solving we get, x=3
And y=5

  • Suppose the smaller number - x
  • larger number - y

According to First Condition  :

x  + 7 = 2y

x - 2y = - 7 ..................1) Equation

According to Second Condition :

y + 4 = 3x

3x - y = 4 , y = 3x - 4 ..........2] Equation

Now put the value of y in equation 1) :

∴ x - 2 (3x - 4) = -7

=> x - 6x + 8 = -7

=> -5x = -7 -8

=> -5x = -15

=> x = -15/-5

x = 3

Put the value of x in equation 2) :

=> 3 x 3 - y = 4

=> 9 - y = 4

=> y = 9 - 4

y = 5

{So smaller number = 3 and larger number = 5 } Answer
