There are two planets X and Y. The mass of Y is twice the mass of X and the radius of Y is half the radius of X. Find the ratio of acceleration due to gravity on the two planets.​

Let mass of planet X =m

then, mass of planet Y = 2m

gravity of X = g1, Y = g2

radius of planet X = 2r

so, radius of planet Y = r

Ratio required = g1 : g2

= Gm/(2r)^2 : G*2m/r^2

(here, G is universal gravitational constant)

= 1/4r^2 : 2/r^2

= 1/r^2 : 8/r^2 = 1:8

Hence, we get required ratio = 1:8
