There are two salesmen in a grocery shop one is in-charge

of billing and receiving payments and the other is in-

charge of weighing and delivering items. But only one

customer is permitted to enter the shop when the billing

person is free. The customer who has finished billing has

to wait till the weighing man is free. If customers arrive at

a Poisson rate of 3 per hour and both the salesman on the

average take 10 minutes each to serve a customer and the

service times follow exponential, find (i) the average

number of customers in the shop (ii) the average time a

customer spends in the shop.
