⇒ x + y = 45

⇒ x = 45 - y ......(1)

Also, each cat take 7 biscuits and each dog take 9 biscuits and total of 355 biscuits are taken

⇒ 7x + 9y = 355

Putting value of x from equation (1)

⇒ 7 (45 - y) + 9y = 355

⇒ 315 - 7y + 9y = 355

⇒ 2y = 40

⇒ y = 20

Also, x = 45 - y

⇒ x = 45 - 20

⇒ x = 25

Hence, Number of cats = 25 and number of dogs = 20
