Let the principal be P = Rs x
Amount, A = P + 60% of Rs x
                    = x + (60/100)x
                   = x + (3x/5) = 8x/5

Given P = Rs 12000, R = 10%, n = 3 years

∴ A = Rs 15,972
Compound interest = Rs 15972 – 12000 = Rs 3972
