There is a basic difference, because mass is the actual amount of material contained in a body and is measured in kg, gm, etc. Whereas weight is the force exerted by the gravity on that object mg. Note that mass is independent of everything but weightis different on the earth, moon,

• It is the measure of inertia of the body.  

• It is a constant quantity.  

 • it only has magnitude.  

• the S.I. unit is kilograms (kg).      

 WEIGHT:-  

•Weight is the force of gravity acting on the body.  

• it is the measure of gravity.  

• it is not a constant quantity, it is different at different places.  

• it has magnitude as well as direction.  

• the S.I. unit is the same as S.I. unit of force, i.e., Newton.
