Let the number of hen be x and number of cow be y

from question

x+y=48 ------------1

Again from question

2x+4y=140 ---------2 (since hen has 2 feet and cows have 4 feet)

On multiplying equation 1 by 2

2x+2y=96 -----------3

On subtracting eqn 3 from eqn 2,we get

2x+4y =140

2x+2y =96

y = 44/2

= 22

On putting y=22 in eqn 1

x+22 = 48

x = 48-22

= 26

Hence no. of hens =26

and number of cows =22
