There is a grassbed of width 1m running inside around a square waterbed in a park of side 50m. Find the area of the grassbed.

Side of the square park  =  50m

∴ Area of the square park  = 50 X 50

                            = 2500 sq. m

Now,

      Side of the park without the Grassbed  =  50-1

                                                                           = 49 m

∴ Area of the park without the grassbed = 49 X 49

                             = 2401 sq. m

So,

The area of the grassbed  = (Area of the park) - (Area of the park without the grassbed)

= 2500 - 2401

= 99 sq. m
