Sponsors of any program, event or movie look for advertising mileage. So they pay an amount for being sponsoring particular films. In my opinion the producer cashes in on a sponsor for example by telling them that they will have some dialogues where their product name will be mentioned or shown. for his mileage the sponsor pays. Beyond that sponsors will not help. But if the movie flops the sponsor will not get the mileage. Therefore the producer may have to compensate the sponsor and not the other way around.
