There is a lot of variation in the relief of India from north to south and from east to west due to following physiographic division-:

  • This is a transition zone between northern mountains and peninsular uplands in the South.

3. The Peninsular Plateau :

  • It is triangular in shape.
  • It covers a total area of 1600000 km^2.

4. The coastal Plains :

  • West Coastal Plains - It is 1500 km long from Surat to Cape Comorin.
  • East Coastal Plain - It receives less rainfall than west coastal plain. It is wider and drier.

5. Islands : India has total 247 islands of which 204 lie in bay of bengal remaining in Arabian Sea.
