Answer:
there is indeed a difference between the sincere appreciation of a faithful friend and the artificial flattery of a flattereing friend.
the sincire appreciation of a true and trustworthy friend motivates a person to be better at what he does, and also the acknowledgement would help him improve.
on the other hand artificial flattery is not what a person need, though at the first time, he or she might feel good and somewhat 'special' because of the flattering and the praise for them by the flattery person
but at the long term it would only help them increase their ego and would harm them . also, there is no improvement in the person as the wrong things are not being truthfylly acknowledged to in a critical manner. hence the person would be harmed in a way.
as far as my experience is concerend many times i have been praised , a lot, but nothing that did good to me, as it only helped me increase my false ego, which was there for no reason.
but the acknowledgement and appreciation given to me by my friends is satisfying and motivating at the same time.
as far as the spider and the fly is concerned, i havent understood the program completely, but the above answer is for the rest of the question.
Hope it helps!!
