There is a mixture with sand and iron filings. Write an activity for the separation of iron filling from sand.

Activity: Seperation of iron fillings from sand.

Material required: Sand, iron fillings and horse - shoe magnet.

Steps-

1) Sprinkle the sand mixed with iron fillings on the ground ( or on a table)

2) Place a horse- shoe magnet on top of the mixture.

3) The horse shoe magnet must be in range of the mixture.

Observation: The iron fillings get attracted to the magnet and the sand is left behind.

That is how the mixture is separated.
