Answer:

hi !!

Step-by-step explanation:

The total number of chickens = x

The total number of rabbits = y

The total number of legs = 50

By question,

Each chicken has 2 legs and each rabbit has 4 legs. So, total number of legs is 50.

2x+4y=50............(i)

Total number of chickens and rabbits is 16.

x+y=16 ----- x = 16-y.........(ii)

Substitute (ii) in (i) equation:

2x+4y=50

2(16-y) + 4y= 50

32-2y+4y = 50

32+2y = 50

2y = 50-32

2y = 18

y = 18/2

y = 9

Substitute y=9 in (ii) equation:

y = 9

x = 16-y = 16-9= 7

Answer: x = 7 = number of chickens

and

y = 9 = number of rabbits.

Hope this helps you !!!
