Length of piece of wood=2m

1m=100cm

2m=200cm

First piece=40 cm

40 cm=0.4

Other piece= 200-0.4=199.6cm

So the other will be of 199.6cm

199.6cm=1.996m

Hope it helps you.....

  • The length of the first piece = 120 cm
  • The length of the Second piece = 80 cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

  • The length of the first piece be 'l'
  • The second will be (200 cm - l cm) = (200 - x) cm

According to the question,

First piece = 40 less than twice second piece.

⟼ l = 2 × (200 - l) - 40

⟼ l = 400 - 2l - 40

⟼ l + 2l = 400 - 40

⟼ l + 2l = 360

⟼ 3l = 360

⟼ l = 360 / 3

⟼ l = 120

Hence,

  • The length of the first piece = 120 cm
  • The length of the Second piece = 200 - x = 200 - 120 = 80 cm.
