there is an anomaly when it comes to the position of hydrogen because it can be placed either in the first group or 17th group in the first period can you say why???

This is because h2 behaves both as alkaline metals and the halogens. It has 1 valence electrons but also has 1 valency. It exhibits the property of both 1st and 17th group. Hence there is a anomaly
