Given info : There is an average of 3.5 × 10¯² kilograms of dissolved salt in each liter of seawater. The Pacific Ocean contains approximately 6.6 × 10²⁰ liters of seawater.
To find : no of kilograms of dissolved salt are in the Pacific Ocean.
Solution : each litre of seawater contains 3.5 × 10¯² kg dissolved salt.
so, 6.6 × 10²⁰ litre of seawater contains 3.5 × 10¯² × 6.6 × 10²⁰ kg dissolved salt.
i.e., 3.5 × 6.6 × 10^18 kg
= 23.1 × 10^18 kg
= 2.31 × 10^19 kg
Therefore 2.31 × 10^19 kg dissolved salt is available in 6.6 × 10²⁰ litres of seawater.
