Answer:

Forest dwellers were  people who resided in the deep forests. They lived by hunting and gathering fruits and other forest products. In the 16th and 17th century there was a remarkable transformation in the lives of the forest dwellers.

Development of trade between the hill tribes and the plains disturbed the forest settlement.

The clearance of forests for agricultural activities and procurement of honey and other forest products by the outsiders had an adverse effect on the lives of forest dwellers.

Elephants were also captured and sold. Thus trade was introduced in the lives of the forest dwellers.

With the progress of trade and agriculture the lives of these forest dwellers started showing social reformation. Many tribals chief became zamindars and some into kings. They built up army by recruiting tribals from their society. Tribes like Ahom in Assam became politically very powerful.

The Sufi saints and their teachings also had a huge impact on the lives of these tribals because these saints used to wander in the forest.
