There is car parking area in which parking charges of a car in a parking lot are Rs 20 for the first hour & Rs10 for the subsequent hours. Mohit went with his wife for shopping and parked his car at a parking lot from 1pm to 4pm. Taking total parking time to be x hours & total charges as Rs y, write a linear equation in two variables to express the above statements and plot a graph for the same. While taking his car back, Mohit had a dispute with the watchman for paying Rs 30 only. Examine if Mohit’s calculation was wrong or right

Answer:

Equation to calculate parking change = 20x + 10y

Mohit's calculation was wrong, actual parking charge was 40 rupees

Step-by-step explanation:

Parking charge 20 rupees is for x hour

Parking charge 10 rupees for subsequent hours i.e y hours

Equation to calculate parking change = 20x + 10y

Now Mohit's parking calculation

He parked for 3 hours ( 1 hour +  2 hours)

Parking change = 20x + 10y  = 20*1 + 10*2 = 20 + 20 = 40 rupees

Mohit's calculation was wrong
