Democratic system in India find its root in freedom struggle against British colonialism. It is this struggle that taught us that only democracy can give us future of equality, justice and liberty of individual. We adopted that model of democracy which envisaged equality of all , freedom of speech, social and political justice.
But today it seems that those values are not at all existent. We find ourselves in situation where political class treat common citizens as slaves, people can't express themselves freely, there is always a "but" in freedom of speech, crony capitalism is rampant, laws and ordinances are passed which impinge upon rights of poor and media looks biased.
On the other hand we should look around us and see which system has been comparatively more successful whether is one party system of China or monotheistic rule or monarchy . It is the only option we have and it is the best option. In our country democracy is still in nascent form , it is just 65 years old. Today America is the champion of democracy in the world and it is. It is a mature democracy where freedom of speech is respected no matter what, people can even criticize religious dogmas and religions openly, administrative machinery is more accountable. But on the other hand despite being the oldest democracy it gave its citizens adult franchise even after India, racial discrimination can still be seen. All it means that democracy grow up very slowly. Change in democracy is very tedious task and happens gradually and that is essence of it . It considers opinions of everybody whether it is good or bad , it takes everybody together whether he is fast or slow and that may sometimes be a frustrating experience but in the longer run , leads to prosperity.
