Explanation:in a current carrying solenoid, there will be 2 poles and it provides a magnetic surface in which a soft iron piece of metal is electromagnatised .... We know that the field lines travel from north to south. Now if the solenoid is freely suspended the magnetic field lines will travel from south to north. Therefore the field lines only converge at the ends and does not diverge .......

Answer:
There is either a convergence or divergence of magnetic field lines near the ends of a current carrying straight solenoid because it behave similar to that of a bar magnet and has a magnetic field line pattern similar to that of a bar magnet. Thus the ends of the straight solenoid behaves like poles of the magnet where the converging end is this south pole and the diverging end is the north pole.
