Let initial price of a chair was X Rs and number of chair sold was Y.

So, Initial total earning =X×Y=XY Rs

Now, price reduce by 20%.

So, New price =X−20% of X=0.8X

Number of chairs sold increased by 80%

∴Number of chairs sold=Y+80% of Y=1.8Y

New total earning =0.8X×1.8Y=1.44XY Rs

Increase in sales =1.44XY−XY=0.44XY Rs

Increase in percentage=

Initial Earning

Increase×100

= 4℅
