Communalism maybe used to promote a political party. It may make use of symbol or use any other tactics which amy affect people. 

Communalism at its worst form may even lead to roits. India has seen many communal roits.

Communalism should be combated, with instant effect, because India is democratic country, and any democracy does not allow communalism. Communalism means people of a certain group, make law decisions and actions which only favorable to them, but not favorable for the whole society.

This kinds of thing's in a developing society is a huge drawback, and it slows down the development process, by creating a new hindrance against development and betterment of society.
