Shradhh is done in the memory of the dead, as you said. However, it's just a superstition which came into existence during Upanishads period.
According to Geeta, the soul, after death immediately takes birth in another creature so how can providing food by shradhh can help them to get moksha (enlightenment)?
The positive point one may say that it shows the affection of family, towards its dead members, is still alive. However, it itself has a logic. In ancient times, people loved their relatives too much and after their deaths, they get a huge setback due to which they became unconscious and uncomfortable. So these superstition like shraadh and pind daan were created so that they feel good that they are doing something for them even after their death and their mind was distracted from the pain. The animals may also get food due to this. It can also be a plus point.
The negative point is that it's a superstition. Nowadays people are not like those ancient people. They recover from the sadness after some weeks. They feel sad but they are not always thinking about them. So these superstition are useless now as they can't help a person from sadness as he is not that sad. Nowadays, the crooks people who acts as a Brahmin literally loots the family saying that if they will not give this this this, then their ancestors will be angry and all. So basically, it is a harm to society I would say.
As Geeta says and I mentioned earlier, the soul immediately transfers to another body after death. The only way to get enlightenment is by meditation, the way by which Mahavir Jain, Gautam Buddha, Christ, Musa, Swami Paramhans, Swami Vivekananda has got.
I hope it helped and you got my point sir.

Shraadh is a tradition in Hindu families.
Well as we know everyone is having his/her own thinkings and mentality. Same in the case of mine .
Firstly sorry I don't want to make fun of anything or I don't want to hurt anyone .
As I am also a Hindu by birth but secular by heart .
Belongs to a very religious family but i am an atheist .
So let's start about it :
What we do in shraadh ?
=> We do worship of our ancestors and make food for them at home and then that food is given to the cows .
In some families people give many things to the Brahamins also . [Don't know much about it ] .
So the first point is that
On a special day in a year we make food for our ancestors , tell me what about the 364 days =_=" . Do they remain starve on those days ?
=> According to Hindu Puranas , Upnishadas and Vedas after death the soul leave that body and take a new birth by an another body .
Then how is it possible that they are provided by those things which we give to Brahamins.
Well these all are just superstitions . These are not having a true reason behind them.
And we all know very well that Superstition take place in behind of the religion.
=> No it is not good for social economy and nation.
★ From my side : No positive points .
Umm...one may be there :
It provides food for those cows !! In the days of shraadhs , the cows are in demand... xD.. [Don't take seriously] .
Negative Point :
As it is a Superstition , so we all know that because of Superstitions fear take place.
Because of it many people are having profits .
But in reality nothing is there !!
After one's death , the soul of that person leave that body and take a new birth !! [Hindu Vedas] !!
Thank you and Sorry if it hurts !!
