Currently the ratio of water to land is 2:1, i.e. the Earth is covered up by 70% of water while the remaining is covered by land. Even in the current existing ratio of water and land on Earth, the water is less compared to the present rocky surface of the Earth.

There are different kinds of rocks in the Earth's crust; continents are made of granite, and ocean crust is made of basalt. The more granite there is, the more continent there is, and the more of the Earth's surface rises above the ocean basins. Water fills the basins. Right now, there is more basin than continent, and so more ocean surface than land surface.

In case the ratio of water is to earth changes and becomes equal that would lead to certain consequences. Currently, looking at the Earth being geologically active, continental drifts take place. Meaning that its core still rotates. If 50% of the surface water is present, then the lithosphere will keep floating above the asthenosphere and new landmass will keep forming as long as our core is still active.

If the land mass increases that would lead to the Earth’s surface trapping more heat, this would make the surface of the Earth, further hotter than what it is right now. Because the water due to rising heat rises into the air, if there would be more surface, Earth would be much too hot.

The availability of more water than land leads to creation of subduction zones, i.e. oceanic crust is forced underneath continental crust, and is partially melted again. This leads to incompatible elements to leave the oceanic crust and become a part of continental crust via volcanoes. The leftover oceanic crust is recycled back into the mantle. So, if there would be more land the recycling wouldn’t be possible.

The only advantage would be the melting of ice caps leads to flooding situations on earth as of now, however disadvantages are far more than the advantages of such ratio conditions.

Water is the most important resource on Earth, and more importantly it sustains life.
