There was a population of bacteria living in temperate waters, and the temperature has

been raised due to global warming. Most of the bacteria living in this water have died

because of their particular niche requirement.

But few bacteria developed resistance to heat and managed to survive. The variations

within bacteria helped them to survive and grow further. Thus, we can say variations are

useful for the survival of species over time
