Among them ,855were boys and of them ,225 boys were in the second year .In the second year, the number of boys and the number of girls are equal . Among the 550 students of the first year , the propotion of number of boys and girls is 3:2. In the third year, number of boys is three times the number of girls. To Find: Number of boys and females in the 1st and the 3rd years.

Solution:

Total number of students in 1st year= 550

The ratio of boys to females (in the 1st year)= 3:2

Number of boys(in the 1st year)= \frac{3}{5} ×  550

Number of boys(in the 1st year)= 330

Number of females(in the 1st year)= \frac{2}{5} × 550

Number of females(in the 1st year)= 220

Total Number of females in the college= 1400-855 = 545

Now to calculate the number of females in the third year = (Total number of girls- Total number of females in 1st and 2nd years)

Number of females in the third year = 545- 255+220 = 70

Number of boys(in the third year)= 3(Number of females in the third year)

Number of boys in the third year= 3 × 70 = 210

Number of females(in the 1st year)= 220

Number of boys(in the 1st year)= 330

Number of females in the 3rd year = 70
