There were 172 passengers on board, both Sri Lankans and Indians. 7/12 of the Sri Lankan passengers and all of the Indian passengers were women. The number of female passengers on board was 142. Take the number of Sri Lankan passengers on board x and the number of Indian passengers on y and build a concurrent equation of x and y to find the number of male passengers on board.

Answer:

Given no.of Sri Lanka Passengers = x

No of Indian Passengers = y.

Given,

7/12th of Sri Lanka Passengers and all Indian Passengers are females.

And no.of females on board = 142

So, (7/12)x + y = 142.

Om simplifying this, you get

7x + 12y = 17040

This is the required and concurrent equation to find the no.of male passengers on board.
