There were 280 members in a country club. 85% of them were male and the rest were female. After some male members left the club, the number of female members was 1/3 of the male members in the club. How many male members left the club?

so male members=280×85/100=238

so female members=(280-238)=42

let x male member left the club

now male members (238-x)

then,

(238-x)/3=42

=> 238-x=42×3=126

=> x=238-126=112

112 male members left the club
