- Vellalar: The agricultural landowners, military officers, businesspersons and priests from the temples, they come under this category of people. All the administration work or the work that required supervision were performed by these kind of people.
- Uzhavar: The cultivators or who were the ploughman fall under this category. They worked for the Vellalar and had to obey all the orders given by them.
- Kadaisiyar : Kadaisiyar or also known as 'adimai ' come under the category of landless laborers. They were bonded laborers, their wages were based on their daily work.
